Coming 2 America

Just finished watching Coming 2 America. Of course, this movie has nothing to do with our dream of coming to work and live in the Land of Milk and Honey. This is just something I had watched during my yuppy years and the title has a significant ring to it. I was expecting to roll over my belly laughing like I remember I did 30 some years ago when I watched the first one but I was slightly disappointed this time. Eddie Murphy delivered as usual but there was no depth in the plot like a very passionate love story or a Father and Son epiphany. Maybe I was so ready for the jokes then but I became a jaded and cynical adult now, it just lacked the oomph factor for me. Like a love story gone sour, the movie has a bitter after taste.

There are redeeming factors in this movie though, almost all of the original cast are back, excellent cinematography, very elaborate costumes and on point production numbers. I would have loved it if they include the "Get the Royal Machete" part in the trailer to the actual movie but nahhh, they snipped it. Good old Morris took a jab at Pacman saying "that Mayweather beat that Filipino boy a$$" and Conor McGregor for the black people. Of course, 30 years later the barbers are still alive and are still talking about boxing! This movie is a good late night watch, when you don't want to use the gray matters between your ears but just want to get your eyes tired so you can fall asleep with a smile. It is free when you have Amazon Prime subscription.
