Music plays an integral part of my being a teacher and I am one who functions to the optimum with it in whatever I do. I usually explain my playlist of the day to my students even if it is a US based artist like "Surfaces" and specially if I play an artist from the Philippines, Japan, Korean, etc. My students are not anymore surprised at my selections because I play any kind of song in whatever genre depending on my mood, theme or current events. They might have been sick and tired of "The Weeknd" because I played his songs for the entire week last week because of the Super bowl.
Link 1: “Bisaya Ko” talks about being proud of your roots and not to be bullied because you talk a little differently, you have different beliefs and values compared to others. They know that the song is sang using my native tongue. They are amazed at the dialects that we Filipinos speak depending on the islands that we originate. Link 2: "Mystery" is a haunting song that I came across in YouTube by a Norwegian artist. I am playing it today to my students and told them that it is a mystery to me how they can afford to have "0" in their grade book at this time of the year, Q3. I also like the vlog that came with the song... breath taking at the same time stomach churning!
Well, this is me trying to expose the youth of America to what real life is... a gamut and cacophony of not just sounds but characters, race, emotions.
